Before falling in love with jazz at the age of 17, Montreal-born artist Katryna spent her formative years studying classical piano, cello, and opera. Following her graduation from the University of Montreal with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance in Voice, she pursued a Master of Arts in Songwriting and Production at the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
Her talent didn’t go unnoticed as she was invited to join renowned French composer and saxophonist Pierre Bertrand's Big Band for the summer of 2022. She performed as part of Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Randy Brecker’s opening act and sung alongside some of the finest jazz musicians from Europe and Cuba, such as Orlando “Maraca” Valle, Joël Chausse, Steen Nikolaj Hansen, and Stéphane Chausse, to name a few.
As a teacher, Katryna values the importance of crafting personalized lessons that align with her students' skills and musical interests. She uses different methods to ensure that learning is not only effective, but also a positive and enjoyable experience for each student. With a diverse background in classical, jazz, and pop music, she is well-equipped to teach a multitude of genres and techniques. As an artist and performer herself, she understands how it feels to be under pressure to do well, and wants to help others build confidence in their abilities and discover their own voices as artists. Moreover, she encourages her students to explore their creativity by also teaching songwriting, composition, and music production at all levels.
