Christopher Blacker
Piano
Chris Blacker is a pianist, composer, and teacher with an eclectic background. He graduated from Cornish College of the Arts with a bachelor in Jazz Piano Performance, and previously studied classical piano at Mannes College of Music. He was a winner of the 2006 ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards, and is currently a composer/lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop. He works as a freelance performer, accompanist, and musical director in New York City and beyond.
Chris has nearly 20 years of experience teaching people of all ages, as a private piano instructor, a musical director for children’s theater, and a jazz band coach, at places including The Brooklyn Friends School, The Playgroup Theater, and The Smith School. As a teacher, he strives to give his students a strong foundation in technique, music-reading, rhythm, and harmony, to support a lifetime of musical exploration and discovery.
