The Smith School to Raise Funds for Autism Awareness

The Smith School is proud to announce our latest community outreach project, participation in a half marathon to raise funds for Autism Awareness.
 
Our own Amy Guzzi, learning specialist, will run the half marathon on March 20, 2011.  Her entire team’'s target is to raise up to $96,000 for the charity, while our in-school goal is $1,000.

Smith School Students Provide a Day of Service at Salvation Army

Often teenagers are put in the spotlight for bullying, fighting and/or being trouble makers.  But there are many who go unnoticed, like the teenagers at The Smith School in Manhattan, whose mission it is to make life better for others.

About forty Smith School students, who connected with The Salvation Army’s community center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn through their teacher Adam Stefani, volunteered to perform a Day of Service on Wednesday, April 6. At least eight teachers accompanied them.

The Smith School Receives Middle States Accreditation

The Smith School is pleased to announce that it has been granted accreditation for grades 7-12 by the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

This accreditation is a badge of honor only awarded to schools that comply with very strict educational and operational guidelines.

For Parents: Gym Schedule Change

The Smith School would  like to inform you that effective second semester, the 7th and 8th grade gym program will only last for one hour - from 12:30 - 1:30pm on Fridays.  The coaches have advised the school that a two hour program is far to long to hold the attention of kids.

This new program will begin on Friday, February 3rd.
